Already offered at Paris' iconic Molitor Hotel Spa, the Dream Machine uses patented photostimulation technology – an approach typically used in neuroscience laboratories. It's a lamp which emits various flickering patterns of light to stimulate the optic nerve and then the brain in a sensory spectacle.

A brief audiovisual stimulation (AVS) exposure of approximately five minutes may be sufficient or even optimal for improving mood to a comparable or greater degree than meditation sessions of equal or longer durations (11 or 22 minutes).

Although a "sober psychedelic" experience may sound hokey, it produces the same illuminating, motivating effects found in DMT blast-offs, while satisfying the psychedelic-curious in the process.

Stroboscopic light therapy has been a recent go-to for me because of how quickly it drops me into a meditative state. It helps to pretty immediately calm my mind and has been such a helpful way to quickly recharge during a busy work day. There’s growing research (with Imperial College London and Freie Universität Berlin) around many of the benefits this type of light therapy can bring to us including improvements in focus, memory, and sleep.

Prolonged exposure to strobe lights has a psychedelic effect, which researchers are investigating as a way to heal the brain. Last summer, in various cities in the UK, more than 40,000 people visited the Dreamachine, a large space designed to induce hallucinatory experiences with white stroboscopic light and electronic music.
